Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County recently celebrated volunteer mentors Brian McGrath as Big Brother of the Year and Samara Minichiello as Big Sister of the Year at its annual Big Thank You Breakfast presented by Bank of America.

“Our Bigs truly are the lifeblood of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County,” said Malena Mendez, President and CEO of the organization. “Brian and Samara, in particular, epitomize how effective mentoring changes the lives of youth for the better, forever. Because of their efforts, we see their Littles thrive, become stronger and more confident, while laying down a strong foundation for future success. We are so grateful for them.”

Big Brother of the Year Brian McGrath was matched with Bryson when he was a shy 8-year-old facing a myriad of challenges. His Big became a stable and supportive figure in his life, and over the past four years, Brian has encouraged Bryson in academics, sports, and personal growth, helping him build confidence, resilience, and important life skills. From bonding over basketball to reading together, their relationship has blossomed into a true friendship. Brian’s consistent support and dedication have made a lasting difference in Bryson’s life.

Big Sister of the Year Samara Minichiello has been a Big Sister to 13-year-old Jahniya for nearly three years. She has supported Jahniya through multiple trials, ranging from a precarious home situation to her mother’s debilitating illness. Minichiello describes her Little as “the poster child for resilience,” and has developed a special bond with Jahniya, rooted in trust and doing the right thing – even when it’s difficult. In addition to being a stand-out Big Sister, Samara has encouraged her friends and family to become Bigs and currently serves as co-chair for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward’s Women on the Verge, which raised funds for scholarships.

Jasmine Bush, a junior at South Plantation High School, was named High School Big Sister of the Year, Vandylia Caldwell-Dent, a 28-year veteran teacher at Country Hills Elementary in Coral Springs, was selected as Defender of Potential, and Tamara Ryan, Director of Program Services for the past 12 years, was chosen as Employee of the Year.

The Grant Cardone Foundation celebrated the Bigs of the Year at the Big Thank You Breakfast and was recognized as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward’s 2025 Corporate Partner of the Year for its consistent, generous commitment to supporting the nonprofit’s mission of igniting the power and promise of youth through lifechanging mentoring relationships.

Bank of America was the presenting sponsor of the event. Additional sponsors included AGM University, JM Family Enterprises, Memorial Healthcare System, BBX Capital and OneDigital.

Sunness Supper Club Opens https://lmgfl.com/sunness-supper-club-serves-up-nola-inspired-cuisine-this-weekend/ Tue, 25 Feb 2025 00:27:52 +0000 https://lmgfl.com/?p=57198 Drawing inspiration from his childhood and South Florida’s diverse cultural makeup, SSC’s tempting menu was conceptualized by owner/operator Michael Stanley in collaboration with James Beard Award-winning Chef Allen Susser.

Fort Lauderdale’s newest restaurant & bar sensation – Sunness Supper Club (SSC) – has officially arrived on historic Sunrise Boulevard, making its grand debut earlier this year. Named in honor of owner/operator Michael Stanley’s late grandfather, the completely renovated space at 2465 East Sunrise Boulevard ushers in a delicious new dining destination delivering soulful American cookery, craft cocktails, and hospitality worthy of a fine dining-level experience without the formality.

“Sunness Supper Club is named after my grandfather so to say it’s something close to my heart is an understatement,” says Michael Stanley, who is no stranger to the industry despite SSC being his first brick-and-mortar concept. Previously, Michael operated MK Takeaways—a ghost kitchen delivering fresh, made-from-scratch, chef-prepared meals—enjoyed successful years in food service as the founder of an organic baby food company, Yummy in my Tummy, and served as director of operations for Tequila Ranch at The Park Sports Club. Speaking to his first full-service dining concept, he adds, “I wanted to create a space where people can come together to enjoy delicious and high-quality food and drinks with a touch of magic in the air. Mood, music, and lighting are key, and no detail has been overlooked in the design. I want the Sunness Supper Club to be a place where memories are made and good times are had.”

Drawing inspiration from his childhood and South Florida’s diverse cultural makeup, SSC’s tempting menu was conceptualized by Michael in collaboration with James Beard Award-winning Chef Allen Susser. Blending classic American cuisine with global influences and showcasing mindfully sourced ingredients, the vibrant menu ranges from fresh raw bar items and flavorful appetizers to main plates featuring steaks, chops, and seafood alongside modern-day comfort dishes.

Among the starting plates, highlights include East and West Coast Oysters; Crudo; Jumbo Lump Blue Crab Cakes with corn salsa and tartar sauce; French Onion Soup topped with a cheesy crouton; Wood Fire Blistered Elote with queso fresco and Peruvian verde; Brooklyn Burrata with cherry tomatoes and aged balsamic; and a “Table Tossed” Caesar for two. The menu also features tantalizing options such as Filet Mignon with red potato mash and demi-glace; Wagyu Beef Skirt Steak & Frites with chimichurri sauce; Heritage Pork Chop with crispy red bliss potato mash; Lobster Tail with jasmine rice and tangerine ginger butter; and a special Catch of the Day with broccolini and fire-roasted lemon. Additional favorites include a Double American Cheese Burger crafted from brisket, chuck, and short rib, Cabernet Braised Short Rib with mashed red potatoes and honey garlic carrots, and Shrimp & Grits with shallots, cheddar, and bacon.

Save room for dessert—the restaurant’s lineup of sweet temptations is as photo-worthy as it is indulgent. Options include S’mores Galore Brownie topped with Hershey’s chocolate, graham cracker, whipped cream, and jumbo marshmallows toasted tableside; and Berrylicious Shortcake with a buttered biscuit, fresh strawberries, cotton candy, and a Grand Marnier strawberry drizzle poured tableside. The whimsical Wonder Wheel—a mini Ferris wheel filled with an assortment of sweet, fruity, and chocolate treats—stands as the true star of the dessert lineup, with a portion of each sale benefiting a local charity.

Overseeing SSC’s dazzling bar program is mixologist Ally Champion, formerly of Gastrotech and Apothecary 330. She has crafted a vibrant beverage list that pairs seamlessly with the culinary offerings, including handcrafted cocktails such as Silver Springs, Weird & Unusual, Live Love Chuckle, Hippie Invasion, Devils Den, and Southern Gentleman, alongside a fine selection of wines and artisanal spirits.

Though SSC enjoys great frontage on Sunrise Boulevard, the actual entrance is in the rear of the building, adjacent to more than 75 free parking spots. Guests are welcomed through a winding hallway reminiscent of a secret passage, leading into a nearly 6,000 square-foot restaurant seating 130. The space showcases a chic yet warm color palette of sage green and neutrals, complemented by artisanal touches of wood, marble, leather, and gold. A focal point is the expansive U-shaped marble bar adorned with hanging wood-finished wine racks that seats close to 30. Adjacent are two spacious banquettes, adaptable into an ad hoc private space, with table seating that includes a mix of low- and high-top tables, half-moon booths, and elongated booths for larger parties. Elegant glass and wood cabinets displaying the bottle selection add dimension between the bar area and dining room, while a wood-fired oven further contributes to the venue’s inviting warmth.

Looking ahead, the second phase of SSC—a hidden upstairs speakeasy overlooking the dining room—will open in the Spring of 2025.

Rosemary’s Miami Debuts in Wynwood, Blending Italian Tradition with Local Flair https://lmgfl.com/rosemarys-miami-debuts-in-wynwood-blending-italian-tradition-with-local-flair/ Fri, 21 Feb 2025 21:50:22 +0000 https://lmgfl.com/?p=57173 The beloved NYC eatery brings fresh flavors, sustainable ingredients, and a lush urban oasis to Miami.

The post Rosemary’s Miami Debuts in Wynwood, Blending Italian Tradition with Local Flair appeared first on Lifestyle Media Group.

]]>
Rosemary’s Miami, the beloved Italian neighborhood restaurant from New York City is now open in the heart of Wynwood (322 NW 25th Street). The brainchild of Casa Nela hospitality group founder/owner Carlos Suarez, Rosemary’s Miami is a bit of a homecoming for the Cuban-English restaurateur, whose family called Miami home for close to 20 years. “The foundation of the Rosemary’s concept is comfort, a space to step out of your busy life for a moment and enjoy delicious food at affordable prices in a place that evokes the feel of the Italian countryside.”

To that end, and much like its northern predecessor, Rosemary’s Miami is firmly planting its roots by repurposing a single-story shoe warehouse and adjacent empty lot, transforming them into a lush oasis for al fresco dining, set amidst an urban farm that evokes the aura of a lush, charming Tuscan villa. No doubt, Rosemary’s Miami delivers a thoughtful and elevated dining experience rooted in sustainability and locally sourced ingredients while reminding the wider community that great design and food can be approachable.

At the helm in Miami is Executive Chef Craig Giunta, whose impressive vitae includes Mother Wolf, Concours Club, and Macchialina. At Rosemary’s, the kitchen is just steps away from its freshest ingredients—literally. The restaurant’s on-site urban garden, created in collaboration with Little River Cooperative, brings Miami’s vibrant flavors to life with homegrown citrus, herbs, vegetables, and flowers.?From fragrant rosemary and fennel to zesty kumquats and key limes, Giunta incorporates garden-grown ingredients into nearly every dish.

The menu – echoing Rosemary’s deep-rooted connection to the land – showcases a variety of seasonal vegetables, handmade pastas, and fresh seafood. Diners can expect an array of focaccia, along with house favorites such as Eggplant Caponata with roasted vegetables, pine nuts, and agrodolce, and Orecchiette with house-made sausage, broccoli rabe, Fresno chili and Parmigiano. Dishes exclusive to the Miami location include a Crudo of bluefin tuna, seasonal citrus, fennel, coriander, and basil; Linguini with Florida Rock Shrimp, lemon, bomba chilis, and garlic; and Heritage Porchetta with zucchini salad and Calabrian date hot sauce.?For dessert, guests can indulge in the popular Olive Oil Cake, Tiramisu, and Bombolini with Nutella crema. A creative cocktail list offers Italian spritzes, zero-proof libations, and twists on the classics. The wine list features Italian wines, curated to complement the menu.

Rosemary’s is named after Suarez’s mother and pays tribute to her delicious, made-with-love home-cooked meals and the vegetable garden she tends in Lucca, Italy. It was the glow of these memories that sowed the seeds for what would become Rosemary’s – a restaurant that evokes the spirit of a family dining room warmed by the craft and the affection emanating from the kitchen. Combining a relaxed, botanical design, polished yet hospitality-focused service style, and delicious, reasonably-priced food, Rosemary’s is the type of neighborhood restaurant any neighborhood wants and deserves.

Designed by NYC interior design firm Dekar Design, who created all seven Casa Nela restaurants, the 7,000 square foot indoor-outdoor space evokes the feeling of an urban farmhouse, combining rustic charm with modern touches. An outdoor garden provides the perfect cultivation area for in-house produce and herbs.

Rosemary’s is located at 322 NW 25th Street in Miami, Florida. Dinner is served Sunday – Thursday, 5PM – 10PM; Friday & Saturday, 5PM – 11PM. Lunch, Brunch, and Happy Hour coming soon. For additional information, visit: www.rosemarysnyc.com/location/miami.

The post La Cañita Opens at Palms at Town & Country appeared first on Lifestyle Media Group.

Born from the vision of Miami’s top food and beverage icons – James Beard Award-winning Chef Michelle Bernstein and restaurateur David Martinez, the culinary power couple behind several of Miami’s beloved hotspots including Cafe La Trova, Sweet Liberty & newly opened Sra. Martinez, La Cañita is the spirited new flagship restaurant and bar now open at Palms at Town & Country. Located in the heart of Kendall, the concept – developed and designed in partnership with industry veterans Davide Borgia and Orestes Pajon – features a bold, flavorful menu of Latin-Caribbean staples and innovative specialties, and is also home to a top-notch bar program and a vibrant ambiance anchored by bright colors and lively music. More than just a dining destination, La Cañita embodies the essence of South Florida.

The name, La Cañita, which translates to “little sugarcane” in Spanish reflects the heart and soul of the restaurant. It embodies its vibrant essence and rich backstory honoring the menu’s bold and exciting flavors while paying tribute to the spirited rum culture throughout the islands, from Cuba and Jamaica to Haiti, Puerto Rico and points between. To that end, La Cañita offers an extensive drink menu with expertly crafted cocktails. Highlights include a classic Mojito made with four-year Flor de Caña, lime, sugar, mint, soda, and bitters; the Margarita Queen featuring Patron El Cielo, Grand Marnier, lime and salted air foam; and the Cacao Negroni crafted with Mijenta Reposado, Cascara Vermouth, Campari and Creme de Cacao, among other tempting libations.

Created by none other than Miami culinary icon, Chef Michelle Bernstein, the vibrant menu features dishes that showcase Latin and Caribbean cuisine along with influences from Central and South America. Diners can find a wide variety of unique and delicious dishes on the menu including Croquetas and Empanadas to start, along with Conch Fritters dusted with powdered sugar, key lime dipping sauce; Mixed Seafood Ceviche with sweet potato and cancha; and Pork Belly glazed with citrus-bourbon BBQ. Entrée highlights include Potato Gnocchi Carbonara with crunchy prosciutto, roast tomatoes; Caribbean Bouillabaisse prepared with sofrito, shrimp, fish, calamari and shellfish, lime and chilies; Lechon Asado with steamed yuca, chicharrones and mojo de ajo; and Churrasco Ropa Vieja served with arroz, frijoles and platanos maduros.

“La Cañita’s expansion has been years in the making and we are so excited to bring its full vision to life in Kendall,” says partner David Martinez, who co-owns the concept with Chef Bernstein, Davide Borgia and Orestes Pajon. “We first introduced La Cañita in 2021 with a smaller, streamlined version at Miami’s Bayside Marketplace which quickly became a local favorite. Now, we’re thrilled to bring the new flagship location to Palms at Town & Country and to give guests an exciting, fun experience that showcases the vibrant flavors of the Caribbean, not just from Cuba and Puerto Rico, but also Haiti and all of the amazing cultures that contribute to the local flavor of Miami.”

Located at 8405 Mills Drive, Suite 203, La Cañita Kendall seats close to 180 people between the al fresco patio, spacious dining room, private dining area and buzzing bar. The work of Locus Architecture and featuring a stunning interior design curated by Chef Michelle Bernstein’s sister, Nicolette Bernstein, the 5,434 square-foot restaurant space echoes the look and feel of an island-kissed rum distillery, sure to evoke feelings of seaside escape in the heart of Miami-Dade County. For more information, please visit www.lacanitamiami.com.
