Florida’s Children First Honors Broward’s Top Advocates for Children

The award-winning nonprofit organization is dedicated to advancing the rights of at-risk, abused, and disabled children.

Florida’s Children First (FCF), a nonprofit organization helping to improve children’s lives, will host its 22nd annual Broward County Advocates for Children Awards at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The event will recognize exceptional child advocates and former foster youth who have made a positive impact in their communities. Josh Rydell, the Mayor of Coconut Creek, will host the annual event. It is anticipated to attract around 300 supporters, including community and business leaders, former honorees, care providers, and individuals committed to aiding Florida’s children.

This year, FCF will spotlight the following honorees:

2024 Outstanding Corporate Champion For Children: Keiser University

Throughout the years, Keiser University and its leaders have actively supported various FCF initiatives to safeguard and enhance children’s rights and protections in Florida. Their efforts have focused on providing necessary tools and opportunities for all children, especially those facing disadvantages.

2024 Outstanding Nonprofit Champion for Children: SOS Children’s Villages Florida

SOS Children’s Villages has been well-known in Broward County for over thirty years. It has established itself as a global leader in providing a caring and family-oriented community to help children and young adults in the foster care system. They offer unparalleled support, a stable home environment, and a platform for healing and hope.

2024 Outstanding Youth Advocate: Takara Young

Despite facing family challenges and being placed under the care of her aunt, Takara has displayed an impressive level of resilience and optimism. She is an emerging leader who has played a vital role in creating and managing engaging events that benefit her peers in care and bring happiness and a sense of belonging to those going through similar experiences.

FCF’s work and this event would not have been possible without the generous support of its sponsors, which include Kelley Kronenberg (Statewide Presenting Sponsor), Funding Florida Legal Aid, Guardian Trust, The Laszlo Fischer Foundation, The Paul Palank Memorial Foundation, The Shane McGee Foundation, and Stuart Building Products.
